SUMMARY:Career Connections Expo
DESCRIPTION:Event to be held at the following time\, date\, and location:\n\nWednesday\, May 8\, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM (EDT)\n\nThe NEW Center at Northeast Ohio Medical University\n\n4211 State Route 44\n\nRootstown\, OH 44272\n\n \n\n \n\nThis year's event will be held at The NEW Center at Northeast Ohio Medical University on Wednesday\, May 8\, 2019 during In-Demand Jobs Week. \n\n \n\nThe Expo will give Portage County students in 7th-12th grade an opportunity to explore potential career paths\, talk with you (the career day presenters) and ask questions about careers they are interested in pursuing and connect with higher education providers. This is also a great opportunity for older students to explore seasonal\, part time\, & internship opportunities that you have available. \n\n \n\nReserve your table before April 24 for the Portage County's annual Career Connections Expo.\n\n \n\nWhy be a Career Day Presenter? \n\n1. The Expo is a great opportunity to connect with the future workforce and encourage students to acquire the skills they need to be successful in the workplace.\n\n2. Educate students about the range of career options in Portage County\; We would like for you to speak to the students about your company's possible career paths and answer any questions they may have. Live demonstrations are always a hit!\n\n3. Expose local students of all ages to meaningful work-and-learn experiences\;\n\n4. Equip local students with the education and skills required to succeed in their careers and meet Portage County's economic needs\;\n\n5. The company and representative will be highlighted in the event's promotional material. \n\n \n\nThe Commitment:\n\nThe commitment is simple: five to six hours of your time as you share what your career is all about\, and how it fits into Ohio's economy. The pay-off is huge: "career ready" students who know what they want to do and how to get there\, a stronger community\, and a more vibrant economy for all Ohioans. \n\n \n\nExhibitor promotion opportunities:\n\n Consider donating a door prize. Student's level of engagement will earn them an entry for door prizes. \n\n \n\n \n\nCareer Connections Expo will focus on career sectors which are projected to be in high demand for Ohio's economy (advanced manufacturing\; agriculture\, construction science\; healthcare & life sciences\; information technology\; and logistics). However\, nearly all careers intersect with these sectors in some way. Be prepared to share how your career contributes to our economic growth and what skills\, aptitudes and educational pathways are essential.\n\nCareer Connections Expo is dedicated to helping students make informed decisions about their future career choices\, and linking them with employers and schools in our community. \n\nOur event space is limited and our goal is to have THREE career day tables from each of these careers/industries. If you are unsure which cluster you represent\, contact Helene Leightner.\n\nWho should come? People who are passionate about what they do and love talking about it!\n\n \n\n1.Agriculture and Environmental Systems: People in these occupations raise plants and animals as sources for food and shelter\n\n2.
